nobody cares about your tools

Note

This is an unfinished draft post.

Nobody cares about the tools you use. Not one single person. Except you, and as well you should.

But when it comes to delivering value, nobody cares what tools you use. They care only about the value you create through improvements in their life. By solving existing problems, or opening doors to things they couldn't do before.

Do you care what tools the linemen use when your power goes out? No, you only care that the power comes back on, and quickly. Do you care what tools the mechanic uses when your car won't start? See, nobody cares about the tools you use.

It doesn't matter that you cracked the CNN. That you built a new method for a recommender.

What matters is the value you created as a result of doing those things.

So learn when good is good enough. When the value delivered meets what was required, or when good enough means you've prepared something robust for future maintenance/integration.

So choose your tools wisely. Developing your craft means understanding what's available, how to use it, its limitations, and when to use it.
